The Vis Moot in the Middle East Region

The U.S. Commerce Department Commercial Law Development Program (CLDP), in conjunction with the University Of Pittsburgh School of Law through its Center for International Legal Education (CILE) prepares law school students for competition in the Vis Moot, along with developing curricula at select universities to include international commercial law and arbitration. CLDP provides technical assistance to developing and post-conflict countries through commercial legal forms, and has often worked with law schools and universities to create meaningful results in the legal environment of the host countries, and has more than a decade of experience working in the Middle East region. CILE has over ten years of participation in the Vis Moot. In addition, CILE has experience developing law curricula in transitional countries, already establishing teams in Ukraine, Serbia, and Kosovo. Over the past four years, CLDP and CILE have established Vis Moot teams in Bahrain, Oman, UAE, and Qatar. This year, the program has expanded to Iraq and Jordan.

CLDP, with the aid of CILE, will assist each school in preparing a team for the moot competition. CILE Director and Professor Ronald Brand along with Pitt Law student coaches will facilitate the Moot process.
