Dr Maria Casoria serves as University General Counsel and Assistant Professor of Commercial Law at the Royal University for Women (RUW) in Bahrain. Since September 2015 she has been Advisor in the Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot at RUW College of Law and the faculty responsible for all activities related to the Annual Middle East Vis Pre-Moot Training and Competition on behalf of RUW; she has also organised a Research Symposium on International Commercial Law and Arbitration as one of the key events of the programme in 2019.

Dr Casoria holds a Bachelor of Law and International Organizations, a Master of Law, and a Ph.D. in Markets Law from the University of Siena, Italy. She is an Italian licensed Attorney and a licensed Mediator in Civil and Commercial Disputes.

Her scholarship includes several papers and book chapters on a variety of topics in the fields of Commercial Law, Competition Law, Privacy in the Digital Markets, and Alternative Dispute Resolution. She serves as contributor to LexisNexis Middle East and reviewer for leading Italian law journals. She has been a key staff member of the research group led by the Department of Law at the University of Siena awarded the biannual European Union Research Grant Jean Monnet Activities 2018 – 2020 for a project on ‘Boosting European Security Law and Policy: Focus on Flows of Migrants, Data Security and Movement of Capitals’, and she is currently a researcher on antitrust profiles in another Jean Monnet Project led by the same university on the topic ‘European Legal Strategies for Payment Systems in the Open Banking Age’.

Before joining RUW, Dr Casoria worked at the Italian Competition Authority, Legal Affairs and Litigation Department in Rome, lectured at the University of Siena, and served as Global Stiefel Fellow in Antitrust and IP Rights at the New York Law School – Institute for Information Law & Policy in New York, USA.
